Favorite Restaurants

Below is a list of our favorite local restaurants.  All of them are reasonably priced, they’re all family-owned and operated, and most importantly they all support local food and wine.  Gilroy is a small but growing community that still feels like small-town America.  If you decide to visit any of our friends be sure to tell them we sent you and they’ll make sure you feel like family.

Great service and a really nice wine selection – beer too if you’re “wine’d out”.  Bella doesn’t have its own kitchen but has agreements with neighboring restaurants (Milia’s and Garlic City Café) to provide full service.  There is quiet, elegant indoor seating as well as a cozy outdoor patio with a fireplace for those cool nights.

Originally opened in the early 1920’s as part of the Milias Hotel there’s a lot of history in this building.  Owners/Chefs Anne and Adam have kept a lot of that historical feel and added the best dinner menu in Gilroy with full selections of seafood, meats, and pasta.  We’re also partial to their lunch menu which can be enjoyed seated at the old school bar where you’ll find local regulars holding court on weekday afternoons.

Garlic City Café

A wonderful café/diner located in downtown Gilroy that’s a little hard to find due to its small storefront but is well worth the effort.  Excellent service and a wide selection of classic salads, sandwiches, and pastas.  Tuna Melt with homemade Potato Salad and Iced Tea… just sayin’.  If you’re there in the afternoon or evening they switch to a dinner menu full of things you wouldn’t expect small café like Penne Pasta and Prawns Florentine.

Café Thyme

Friendly and attentive service, this small café is the offshoot of a successful catering business.  They specialize in local, in season produce so the menu varies throughout the year.  This is our favorite spot for a late lunch lasting all afternoon.  Don’t forget to have dessert – an experience not to be missed.

Westside Grill

A simple menu of well-made comfort food and an excellent wine menu make this the destination for locals looking for a quiet lunch of dinner.  If you’re done tasting wine on the eastside and headed to the other side of Hwy 101 this is the perfect place to stop for a bite.
